What's on the menu this week?
The menu for each week gets put up on our social media page every Wednesday. It changes with the seasons- what's abundant that time of year & what our bakers feel like making that week!
Can I pre-order?
Yes! We have a range of staple pastries and bread that you can pre-order online.
Do I join the queue if I have pre-ordered?
For now, to keep it simple for our front of house team, yes. But we do work very hard to keep wait-time to a minimum.
On certain festive days, we have a separate queue for pre-orders. If that is the case, we'll make sure to mention it in your pick-up notes.
Do you deliver?
Not at present. Nor do we have delivery partners. We're a small team and all our energy goes into baking. Just pop on down to the shop when we are open. Say hi to the bakers and get your fix of bread and pastries!
Some of your products sell too quickly, can you just make more?
Unfortunately not. Flour shop is a small operation and a hugely gratifying passion project. We make as many pastries as we possibly can in the time we have and with a fair amount of enjoyment. Stretching ourselves and our equipment any further would take its toll on both quality and our sanity!
How many days does the sourdough keep? How should I store it?
The sours are best stored in an airtight container or a bread bag or simply a plastic bag. It will last at least 5 days at room temperature. If you want to freeze it, remember to slice it before freezing!
On the day you buy the bread, the bread will be crusty outside and moist inside and is best eaten slathered with butter, cheese, chunky jam or all of the above. If you want to get the loaf back to its crusty state again over the following days, just spay the loaf with a little water and put in in a 200 degree oven for 5-7mins. It should be as good as new, but eat it in the next 2 hours.
If crusty bread isn’t necessarily your jam, the bread (if stored as mentioned above) will still be very moist for the next few days and will be great for sandwiches, toasties or simply as toast.
Do you sell your sourdough starter?
We don't sell it. You can just have it! Just come to the shop with a little glass jar and ask!
How should I store my pastries?
All our pastries are baked fresh on the day you pick them up because they’re intended to be eaten fresh! But if you store them in an airtight container, they will keep at room temperature for at least 5 days. But we’d recommend refreshing them by chucking them in a 180 degree oven for 3-5mins so they regain their crispness. They wont be the same, but they’ll be pretty good.
Will you open another shop?
At present, we’ve decided to invest our energy in getting better, not bigger. Expansion will mean that we have lesser time left for creativity and detail. So for the present, we are happy to be part of a little strip in Turramurra.
Is there anything vegan or gluten free?
All of our sours and the super seedy are vegan. Our pastries are made of good old butter so they’re definitely not vegan. Something we have vegan or gluten free specials- do take a look at the menu we post on social media every Wednesday.
Our super seedy bread has oats which means if you have a mild gluten intolerance, you may be able to eat it. If it’s a mild intolerance, you may also be able to eat our sourdough in small quantities. But nothing in the shop is certified gluten free.
